Retrograde

As a Artist, I feel motivated to create objects that can be used to question perception. I believe that every individual has the ability to expand their perception of reality, and consequently affect the society in which they live.

Paintings like Retrograde, 2019 translates the difficulty that is associated with the realization of the limited nature of our sensory inputs and physiological perceptions of the world. I have visually depicted perspective as a weaving of saturated cadmium lines that protrude from the foreground, distorting a spectator’s view of the plane.

These literal palisades seem to be shifting, cracking, and undulating, offering a glimpse into the hidden world of matte cerulean blue that resides beyond. The juxtaposition of pure line and color, as seen in this painting, can be used to envelope the spectator with experiential color, effectively translate a humanizing experience of transcending the surface of perception.
