Abstract painting allows me to create experiences that dislodge the viewer from their fixed sense of self to experience the present moment. As a medium of communication, painting reflects the joy of creation and has the ability to transport an individual to a space and time other than our own.
My craftsmanship and understanding of technique, as well as willingness to experiment, allow me to create varying surfaces and compositions. Each painting has its own character and specific content which contributes to the series as a whole while also existing as an individually crafted object. Using fields of pure color, enigmatic materials, and a heightened attention to the surface can create an ethereally terrestrial painting.

I have employed a variety of unconventional materials as tools to create optical
anomalies. Through the use of thick sheets of pine lumber I am rejecting the idea
of the square as a neural plane, and acknowledging wood as a material, which allows
me to exploit its flaws and manipulate it into sculptural forms.

In my current body of work, I have reconfigured the industrial quality of compressed
sheets of lumber into warped forms with curvatures and spherical qualities which,
along with their scale, assist in overwhelming the spectator's peripheral vision.
