I have been listening to investigative journalism podcast while I work overnight in the bakery and also in my free time when I need to take a break from writing to do one of my other hobbies.
I've made this list of podcasts and what I think about each one. I hope that you guys will check a few of them out because listening to them has really been a great new addition to my life.
I am going to try to not spoil any of these podcasts and just talk about how immersive and interesting I thought they were as well as the investigative style of the reporter. One of the most interesting parts of listening to these Podcasts for me has been going into them blindsided so that every new detail and twist in the case has been a complete surprise. I hope you take a leap and jump into one as well.

I listen to Podcasts on Spotify and Google Podcasts.

In The Dark (Season One)
This was one of the first podcasts that I listened to and I must say the subject matter and the details of the investigation were very disturbing. The ending is satisfying and infuriating at the same time.
This podcast follows a young boys abduction and the police investigation that follows is pretty horrifying. I enjoyed the investigative team and the detail as well as the consistency they applied to following the case.

In The Dark (Season Two)

This is the best podcast that I have listened to so far. I think that the journalist working on this did an amazing job investigating and really cared about getting to the truth even if it wasn't necessarily what they expected.

I highly recommend this podcast and I think anyone that is interested in listening should start with this. There has also been new developments in the case in 2019-2020 so that is very exciting. In my opinion if you are going to listen to one podcast during your life time it should be this one.

Serial (Season One)

Anyone who is interested in true crime and many people who are not have listened to Serial. I was very excited to listen to this podcast after I became kind of obsessed with them, although I was a little disappointed with investigation. Obviously it is the journalist job be not take sides and only report that facts but I just felt so frustrated that many of the "facts" about the timelines and details of the case could have easily been lies.
After listening to the podcast I really believe that no one is telling the truth about what happened to Hae and the fact that her case can't be solved with concrete evidence is very frustrating.

I believe that this podcast is the most famous and popular because it was one of the first to spend a whole season investigating a single case. I only wish that the investigators spent more time exploring other possibilities that could have led to Hae's disappearance and murder when they realized the people who have been involved in the case for years were not going to provide any new information.

Serial (Season Two)
The second season of Serial is very different from the first as well as very different from the other true crime podcast and documentaries I have listened to. This season follows the story of a young man in the Army who abandoned his post and walked into the desert of Afghanistan. He is captured by the Taliban and spends years as their prisoner.
The podcast asks questions about his true motivation, what happened to him during his captivity, as well as what was happening behind the scenes to get him back to America.
I enjoyed listening to his story and the controversial lengths that were taken to get him back. It stirred very conflicting emotions and left me stumped at times.

Serial (Season Three)

This season of Serial is also very different from the rest and is more of a journalistic look into the court system than focusing on a specific case for the whole season. I really enjoyed listening to this season and although it does touch on a few disturbing cases, I found it to be entertaining and insightful.

This season kind of takes you back for a moment and reminds me of the second season of In The Dark in some ways because it focuses on how twisted common sense and decency can become at times. I would definitely recommend this podcast for people who would like to listen to shorter stories that do not deal with murder or abuse. I was surprised and a little hesitant about the approach at first but really enjoyed listening to it in the end.

Atlanta Monster
This podcast is very disturbing and confusing. It follows the Atlanta child murders in the 1980's and is well...confusing. The reporting is upfront and the story is easy to follow but it really left me dumbfounded about what I thought in the end.

The only criticism that I have about this podcast is that I felt the journalist covering it didn't necessarily push as hard as I wish he would of. He seemed to form no opinions and to not push the case in one way or the other. I understand his reasoning, after all he is a journalist and only wants to report the facts.
The issue I had with this is that I felt like because he didn't allow his own conclusion of the case to surface it kind of just let the investigation fizzle out. I am not sure if I am a huge fan of his investigative style and I really think he could have pushed the case further if he was more passionate and personally invested.
Side Note: This Podcast has super annoying advertisements even if you listen to it on Spotify and pay for no ads. The ads are kind of inappropriate for a Podcast talking about children being murdered. I understand they need to find a way to pay for the podcast but I think they should have been pickier about who they let interrupt their investigation.

Monster: The Zodiac Killer

This Podcast is the follow up season to Atlanta Monster and investigates the Zodiac Killer. It's interesting and gives you a little more insight into the cases but doesn't really bring anything new to it.

I enjoyed listening to this Podcast and it really made me wonder if the Zodiac will ever be unmasked.
Side Note: This podcast also has ads like the first season but they aren't as horrible.

Death in Ice Valley

This podcast was great and really intriguing! It was made by the BBC so it's a little different from the American podcasts that I have listened to but in a refreshing way. Death in Ice Valley feels more like a TV special than a podcast at times, the background music is very cool and sometimes the interactions between the two host's sound pretty scripted.

The podcast follows a case of a woman who was found murdered in very mysterious circumstances that leads you to believe she was involved with espionage. I liked that I did learn a few things about the case that I didn't know before and I was surprised that I made some of my own conclusions about that case that I never expected to make when I began the podcast.

Infamous: The Tekashi 6ix9ine Story

This case is....different to say the lease. I'm not a fan of 69 music so I was a little hesitant to listen to this podcast, but boy was I wrong. The story is pretty messed up and strangely entertaining. I think that the investigators did a great job of covering the case and shining light on crazy things that were happening behind the scenes that many people probably didn't know about.

I would recommend this podcast to others even though it is out of the norm of what I usually listen to. Whoever thought I'd be Googling this guy to see updates on the case?
