Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe

Hello! I'll be sharing my ingredients and balm recipe in this Blog Post. I hope you create something you love and have fun doing it!

My Beeswax Balms have been my top sellers at the Craft Markets I've attended this Spring. I tried so many popular recipes I found on YouTube and wasn't loving any of them enough to sell them. Some were too soft, too oily, too hard, or too lumpy! (ew) I've learned so much over the past few months making these and I wanted to share it so that I might save someone a lot of lost time, frustration, and money.

The most important thing I have learned is that ingredient ratios aren't the only important aspect of balm making... Shea butter crystallization is. It doesn't matter how nice your ingredients are or how fancy your label is...if your lip balm is lumpy no one is going to use it! When I ran into this problem while crafting, I felt kind of betrayed that none of my favorite creators had even mentioned this or what to do to prevent it. After some research, new equipment, and experimentation I think I might have concurred the issue.

The trick is to heat the Shea Butter/Cocoa Butter/Mango Butter at 175 degrees for 20 minutes and cool quickly. I really did not enjoy using a double boiler because I felt like the steam was contaminating my oil mixture with water droplets and heating that consistently for that amount of time is close to impossible with a microwave. After some searching, I found this awesome little device that is affordable and makes creating balms so much more enjoyable and less stressful! It is a candle wax melter!

I hope this information helps anyone looking to making their own balms! Here are a few videos I made about how I make and package my lip balms.

How to make Beeswax Lip Balm

Here is a recipe card I made with instructions on how to make them! I will list and link all of my ingredients below the recipe card.

The Butter Mixture I use is 50% Shea Butter, 25% Cocoa Butter, and 25% Mango Butter. I bought a 5lbs box of it because I use it for all of my Beeswax products and they sell smaller portions as well.

I really like using unrefined Coconut Oil because it smells amazing!

My Brother bought me the Avocado Oil I'm using from Costco and i cant find it online.
